A day that reminds us how simplicity can move mountains—Gandhi Jayanti celebrates the power of truth and non-violence. Recognised as one of the three national holidays in India, it also carries global significance as the United Nations has observed it since 2007 as the International Day of Non-Violence.
At the heart of this remembrance lies the philosophy Gandhi lived by; the vows of truth, nonviolence, celibacy, non-stealing and non-attachment, drawn from Jain and Hindu traditions. His life, writings and speeches are studied, admired and questioned. To some, he is the embodiment of simplicity and moral strength; to others, a more complex figure shaped by circumstance and culture. Yet, beyond every interpretation, his legacy endures—urging us to walk with conscience, courage and compassion.
