Fancy an excuse to reconnect with your childhood? It's Winnie the Pooh Day today! That’s right, that 'willy-nilly silly old bear' has a day to himself! It's actually the birthday of Alan Alexander Milne, the man who brought Pooh and his pals to life. Inspired by Milne's son Christopher Robin and his stuffed animals, the stories have captured the hearts of readers for nearly a century.
What better place to celebrate him than in the real Hundred Acre Wood, the Ashdown Forest in East Sussex? This conservation landscape, a mix of heathland, woodlands and grassy areas, is also a riddle of historical features from the Bronze Age, Iron Age and Romano-British era. One iconic spot here is the Poohsticks Bridge, a wooden bridge that spans a gentle stream. Inspired by the game played by Pooh and his friends, visitors can enjoy the timeless tradition of dropping sticks into the stream and watching them race to the other side. So, why not don a stout pair of boots and grab a map and take a leaf out of Pooh's book?
